My mother has a plaque hanging in her bathroom, "One Godly Woman Can Make a Difference." This quote personifies my mother's life. I believe that anyone reading this blog has been touched by my mother.
Open Hearts Mininstry is in existence because of Sandy's willingness to listen to God and follow His leading. The fascinating thing about my mother is that she has such a tremendous impact on thousands of people and yet it is without a lot of fanfare. She is humble and gracious. Her life has been about opening her home, her heart, and her resources to care for others. She brings gentleness, kindness, compassion and beauty to everything she does.
Yesterday as our family gathered at her home to make a plan for how to care for her after she undegoes her surgery today, I was struck with how frail she looked and yet how peaceful. She said that God has given her a verse for this time and had even affirmed it to her by hearing the chaplain at the hospital speak that same verse over the loudspeaker. My mother walks closely with God every day and I am so grateful that He is speaking words of comfort to her during this very painful and dark time.
As I was saying goodbye to her last night and letting her know that I would be spending the night with her after surgery, she whisptered to me that if anything happened to her, she wanted me to have her most recent Bible....she wanted me to have it because she said it is full of writing in the margins where God has given her promises for Open Hearts Ministry. I am deeply touched and honored at my mother's blessing and desire to pass on her legacy of listening to God's promises to her and to Open Heart's Ministry.
My mother's life has made a difference in my life and many, many others. She has brought light into very dark places for many of us. One Godly woman has made a difference and it is that legacy that I want to pass to all of you...That each of you would be that one Godly Woman OR Man who makes a difference....
